W. D. (Billy) Kincaid ranched with his brothers Joe and John in Brewster County on San Francisco Creek near the old community of Hammond. They sold thier holdiings to E. Lockhousen in the 1890's. Billy and his family moved into Alpine where he opened a mercantile business. In 1905, the family moved to Uvalde where Billy died in 1914. Billy married Cordelia Taylor in 1889. Children of this couple were Eugene, Frank, Mae and Willie.
Benjamin Franklin King was a veteran of the War Between the States. Much information can be gleaned from his Texas Confederate Pension Applicaion which was dated 1930. His wife, Addie King, lived in Alpine after he went to the Confederate Home located in Austin. Addie and Benjamin were married April 6, 1892 in Nacogdoches County, Texas. They are known to have one son W. H. King.
Benjamin F. was born in 1846 in Lincoln County, Tennessee and died May 17, 1930 at theConfederate Veteran Home in Austin. He served ast a Private in Company K 4th Texas Cavalry in the CSA. His widow, Addie, was born October 14, 1867 in Cherokee County, Texas and died April 20, 1953 in Alpine.
J. W. and L. M. Kokernot acquired ranching property in the Davis Mountains as early as 1883. H. L. Kokernot, Sr., son of L. M. Kokernot is well known in the counties of Far West Texas. Many call H. L. Kokernot one of the great cattle kings of Brewster County.
H. L. (Herbert Lee) was born in Gonzales County, Texas and after receiving his education, he moved to the Davis Mountains to manage the family holdings there. At one time, the family sold it's holdings in the Davis Mountains and moved to the Lubbock area, returning in about 1912 to acquire more land. These purchases continued for some time and came to be known as the 06 Ranch. This successful ranch continues in operation in present day---generations later.
Herbert L. Kokernot married Elizabeth Vanham of Lavaca County. Three children were born to this couple: Margaret, Elizabeth, Herbert L. Jr. When H. L. Sr. moved to San Antonio in about 1918, H. L. Jr. remained in the are managing the interests.
Historical records of Brewster County reflect that H. L. Sr. was a civic and religous leader-contributing greatly to the economic, social and religious life of the area.
