Mr. Baros was born October 5, 1865, in Czechoslovakia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Baros. At the age of seven he came to America with his parents who located in Fayette County, Texas. Due to the loss of both parents when quite young, he made his home with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Baros. He was married to Christinia Martinak, who preceded him to the grave March 6, 1933, at the age of 61. Two infant daughters, Frances and Mary, also a 14 year old son, Jimmie, are deceased. Survivors include seven sons and three daughters as follows: Willie Baros of Yoakum; John Baros of Moulton; Frank Baros, Jr., of Kokernot; Charlie Baros of Gonzales; Rudy Baros of Salt Lake City, Utah; Martin Baros and Albert Baros of Shiner; Mrs. Fred (Christine) Gallard of Houston; Mrs. Cecil (Justine) Harvey of San Benito; and Mrs. H. R. (Celestina "Sally") Brunner of Corpus Christi. Grandchildren surviving are 16 and seven great-grandchildren. One brother, Fred Baros, of Floresville also survives. Mr. Baros owned and operated the Commercial Hotel for 16 years and was owner at the time the structure burned. For the past six years he had made his home with his son, Frank Baros, Jr., and family, at Kokernot. The past six months he had been living with another son, Albert, and here death called him following an illness that had extended over the past two years. He died on the farm he had cultivated and resided on for 40 years. Funeral services were held from the home of his son, Martin Baros, in Shiner, Tuesday morning, August 27, 1946, at 8:00 AM thence to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner for Requiem High Mass with Rev. Leo Moczygemba officiating. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery with his seven sons bearing the remains of their venerable father. Mr. Baros was one of the picturesque old timers of this community. He will always be recalled for his jocular spirit that radiated cheerfulness around and about him. He was a faithful and loyal member of the Catholic Church. His final rites were largely attended and the floral tributes bespoke the esteem in which he was held. Friends throughout this section will join the Gazette in
extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family and many
relatives in their sorrow. Posted by Dan and Bea Rost, La Grange
