ANASTASIA (JUREK) BARTA

Funeral services for Anastasia Barta, 86, were held on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Guardian Angel Church in Wallis, with the Rev. Richard Johnston, S.C.J, officiating. Burial was in the Guardian Angel Cemetery in Wallis.

"Stasie" was born in Wallis to Edmund and Frances Chalupa Jurek in 1916. She was raised in the Wallis area. She attended school at Guardian Angel Catholic School in Wallis, graduating as the first valedictorian in 1934. Anastasia Jurek married Bohumil "B.C." Barta on Oct. 19, 1937, in Wallis.

She worked as a tax collector for the city of Wallis, but enjoyed most of her life as a mother, grandmother, and later in life, great-grandmother. Stasie was very active in her church, Guardian Angel, spending many hours with the Czech Church Choir for over 45 years. She was also very involved with the KJZT and the KJT.

Anastasia Barta died on Friday, Jan. 24 [2003], in Wallis. She is survived by her children, Eugene Barta and wife Carol, of Canyon Lake, David Barta and wife Loretta, of Deer Park, Bernice Brast and husband N. Dempsey of Wallis, Charlie Barta, of Wallis, and Gloria McCain, of Eagle Lake; sister, Henrietta Pavlicek and husband Henry; sister-in-law Marcella Jurek; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Arnold, Sylvester, and Vaclav Jurek; sister, Edith Janik; daughter-in-law, Linda Barta; and great-grandson, Bradley Coats.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Knox Memorial Library or the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Guardian Angel Church.

Funeral services were held under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels in Wallis.
