August Frank (Gus) Barton 75, of Waco, died Saturday in Temple.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001 at Wilkerson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas J. Niemara officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Mr. Barton was born August 26, 1926, to Henry and Annie Kapavik Barton in West. He married Jewell Marie Poteet Feb. 14, 1947. He served in the US Army from 1944-1946, in the Phillipines, Pacific Theater and Japan. In 1947 he worked as the manager of Lavender's Cafeteria in Ft. Worth.

He moved to Waco in 1955 and was Owner/Operator of Lavender's Cafeteria until 1976. After selling Lavender's in 1976 he owned numerous business ventures including Jason's Industrial Catering and Tinkermade bakery. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed deepsea fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1981 and his son, David Frank Barton, in 1993.

Survivors include sons, Richard Barton of Dallas and Mike Barton of Waco; grandchildren, Cindy Barton of Arlington and Jason Barton of Temple; four great-grandchildren; his aunt Lillian Pendleton of West and his Uncle, Charles Barton and wife Elenora of Corsicana.

Pallbearers will be Jason Barton, Connie Holloway, Tom Chadwick and Jay McGee.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
