A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23 at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel, Shiner. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with the Rev. Jerry Caponi officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Hallettsville, under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home, Shiner. Serving as pallbearers were Marvin Kristek, Wilbert Kristek, Gary Malinek, Ronnie Chumchal, Finley Neighbors and Herman Jurica. Military graveside rites were conducted by Shiner VFW Post 6209 and American Legion Post 201 of Shiner. Serving as color bearers and color guards were Ben Haas, Leonard Novak, Daniel Velt, Emil Chumchal and Melvin Hauschild. Ewald Erdelt served as squad leader. Chaplain George Watzlavick read the burial ritual and presented the pre-folded flag to Mrs. Ehler. The sounding of pre-recorded taps concluded the service. Mr. Ehler was born Dec. 4, 1921 at St. Mary's, in Lavaca County, Texas, son of Joe and Mary (Holocher) Ehler. He was a Catholic and member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3081, the Shiner American Legion Post 201 and the Shiner Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6209. He was a retired welder of Kaspar Wire Works. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Malatek) Ehler; two daughters, Gail Ehler of Austin and Joyce Ann Thomas of Germany; a step-daughter, Linda Ann Parker of Lufkin; two sons, Kenneth Ehler of Seguin and Wayne Ehler of Austin; two step-sons, Tommy Finch and Ronnie Wayne Finch, both of Lufkin; two sisters, Selma Kristek of Hallettsville and Rose Knippa of Seguin; one brother, Erwin Ehler of San Antonio; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Sept. 29, 1957; his
mother, Nov. 27, 1963; a brother, Edwin H. Ehler, July 21, 1966; a
sister, Evelyn Daniels, Dec. 29, 1983; and one step-grandson. Posted by Matt Cross
