Funeral Services for J. J. Elick, 94, of Bellville were held Thursday, Jan 25, 2001, 4PM Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Bellville, with Rev. Tim Bucek celebrating the Funeral Mass.

Graveside Rite of Committal Service was Fri., Jan 26, 1PM at the Granger City Cemetery, Granger, TX with Msgr. Sylvester Fuchs and Rev. Tim Bucek officiating.

Mr. Elick passed away Jan 23 at his home in Bellville.

Born Sept 22, 1906 in Granger, he was the son of V. V. and Bettie Loycasek Elick. He attended Granger schools, graduating from Granger High School,and received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Tulane University. He moved to Bellville in the late 1930's and was a long-time associate of the Federal Land Bank, serving as a Director Emeritus of the La Grange-Bellville Federal Land Bank Association following his retirement as President/Manager of the Bellville Federal Land Bank. He helped organize the Bellville Little League and was its first president; he also serves as past president and charter member of the Bellville Lions Club and was involved in organizing Troop 116 of the Boy Scouts of America in Bellville. Mr.Elick was also a member and past president of Bellville Independent School District School Board during the time O'Bryant and Spicer Elementary Schools were constructed. He was active for over 60 years in the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bellville and sang for many years in the church choir.

He is survived by his wife and partner of 61 years, Virginia Counts Elick of Bellville; children, Susan Elick Grube and husband Charles H. Grube of Houston, Nancy Elick Basham of Dallas whose husband Mike Basham predeceased him, John V. Elick and wife Taunia Elick of Bellville, and Jamie J. Elick and wife, Betsy Elick of Bellville; grandchildren, Charles H. Grube, Jr., Mary Nancy Grube, Suzanne Koonce, John Basham, Mark Basham, Jim Elick, Sam Elick, Laramy Elick, Lacy Elick, and Ashlyn Elick; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Grube and Luke Basham.

Serving as pallbearers were Mark Basham, John Basham, Charles Grube, Jr., Ray Rea, Jim Elick, Sam Elick, and Larry Koonce with honorary pallbearers being George Heger, Erwin Pustejovsky, Wayne Alexander, Vit Janda, Enie Koy, Sr., Louis Vacek, B. J. Gutowsky, and Terry Pekar.

Services under the direction of Knesek Family Chapel, Bellville.
