February 6, 2002 Yoakum -- Martha Gaertner, 75, of Yoakum, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002. She was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Sharon, Tenn., to the late Albert Sidney and Virginia D. Parham Taylor. She was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a member of Court St. Paul No. 1604 Catholic Daughters of America of Shiner. Survivors: stepdaughter, Sarah Gaertner of Austin; stepson, James Frank Gaertner of Huntsville; sister, Mary Williams of Chicago; brother, James Albert Taylor of Hobart, Ind.; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by: husbands, Rudy F. Gaertner and Dr. Fred Berckenhoff; and parents. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight at Buffington Funeral Home chapel. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Burial will be at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Buffington Funeral Home, Yoakum, 361-293-2333.
