Victoria Advocate: January 30, 2002 Hallettsville-- Joseph A. Gast, 78, of Hallettsville, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002. He was born July 1, 1923, in Moulton to the late Joseph and Annie Simecek Gast. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Hallettsville. He was a life member of the VFW. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Troop E, 8th Calvary and earning the rank of private first class. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, two Bronze Stars, American Theater Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Purple Heart. Survivors: wife, Dorothy Mladenka Gast; step-daughters, Susan William, Betty Watson and Margie Blevins; son, David Gast of Gonzales; step-sons, Frank Pustka, Richard Pustka, Daniel Pustka, Edward Pustka, Robert Pustka, James Pustka and Martin Pustka; sister, Tillie Kocian of Houston; brothers, Raymond Gast and Daniel Gast, both of Houston; three grandchildren; 26 step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: daughter, Debbie Browning; three sisters; and two brothers. Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. today at Kubena Funeral Home chapel. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and at 9:30 .m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. John Peters officiating.
