April 19, 2002 Joseph John (Jack) Genzer, 74, of Houston died April 9 [2002] in Houston. Burial was Friday, April 12 [2002] at St. Jerome Catholic Church with burial and full military honors in the Houston National Cemetery. The Rev. Michael S. Van Cleve officiated. He was born March 17, 1928 in La Grange. He was a Korean War Veteran who served in the U.S. Army with the 40th Division. He was a lifelong accomplished carpenter who was a co-owner of Genzer Brothers. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Viola Genzer; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Lawrence Portie; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas J. Genzer and Ronnie and Debbie Genzer; grandchildren, Kristopher, Nicklaus and Kimberley Portie, Greg and Joel Genzer, Sara and Emilie Genzer; one great-grandchild, Mackenzie Portie; brother, Alfred Genzer, sister, Viola Hartensteiner; and special friends, Joe and Shirley Holcomb.
