G. H., "Gibby" Gerdes, age 83 years, 4 months and 15 days of Hallettsville died Tuesday, January 7, 1997. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the Kubena Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Hallettsville with the Rev. John Peters officiating. Burial was at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Kubena Funeral Home, Hallettsville. He was born Aug. 22, 1913 in Hallettsville to the late Victor and Mary Kuntz Gerdes. He was a former county auditor for Lavaca and Gonzales County. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2433 and former member of the Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department and Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Hemmi Gerdes; one daughter, Judy Evans of Hallettsville; one son, G.H. "Gibbo" Gerdes Jr., of Luling; one sister, Mildred O'Brien of Hallettsville; one brother, Victor B. Gerdes of New Jersey; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Feb. 3, 1947 and his mother, Dec. 16, 1975.
