Mrs. Julia Beseda Girard, 102, of West passed away Friday morning (Oct. 12, 2001) at a Hillsboro nursing home.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday by Deacon Cecil Friend at Kotch Funeral Home in West. Mass of Chrisitian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebtrant. Burial will follow at St.Mar's Cemetery in West.

Mrs. Girard was born May 28, 1899, near Frenstat, Texas in Burleson County. She grew up in Brooken near Penelope and married Bill Girard in 1919. He preceded her in death in 1973. She was also preceded in death by a grandchild and great-grandchild.

Mrs. Girard was a homemaker and lived on a farm until 1945, when she moved to West.

She was employed by West High School Cafeteria as a cook for several years before her retirement. All three of her sons served in WWII and Mrs. Girard became a Gold Star Mother when first Lieutenant Louis V. (Oscar) Girard, her son, was killed in an air raid over Polesti, Romania, in August, 1943.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, Catholic Daughters of America, Sacred Heart Court No. 829, and the KJZT Society No. 11.

Survivors include two sons, Henry Girard and wife Cressie of West and William C. Girard and wife Ruth of Hillsboro; three daughters, Mary Ann Mladenka and husband Joe of Houston, Lillian Strange and husband Bill of Dallas and Helen Pomykal and husband Bud of Rosebud; a sister, Frances Slovak of Hillsboro and a brother, Bill Beseda and wife Betty of Irving; a sister-in-law, Ann Beseda of Hillsboro; 27 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund of West or charity of your choice.
