Jim Girard, 80, of Penelope, passed away Saturday, August 11, in Waco. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, withthe Rev. Ron Scheible, O.S.A., as celebrant.Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home (Aderhold-West). Mr. Girard was born January 22, 1921, in Abbott, the son of Joseph and Mary Ann Girard. He married Mary Lillian Sulak in January of 1947. She preceded him in death April 2, 1963. He then married Ann Huse in March of 1971. She preceded him in death July 4, 1979. He married Frances Loucks Smith in July of 1989 and she preceded him in death April 26, 1998. He was a farmer and rancher in the West and Penelope areas. He enjoyed making wine and sausage, fishing, and going to flea markets. He was a member of R.V.O.S. Lodge No. 46 Cottonwood, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Girard, Eddie Girard and Woodrow Girard; a sister, Albina Mikeska; and a son-in-law, Alfred Niemeyer. He is survived by three sons, Anthony Girard of Penelope, Charles Girard of Abbott and Billy Girard of Hallsburg; two daughters, Betty Sommerfeld and husband Howard of Lacy-Lakeview and Janie Niemeyer of Waco; a brother, Ernest Girard and wife Margie of Waxahachie; two sisters, Willie Mae Miller and husband Walter of China Spring and Evelyn Bezdak and husband Ernest of West; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Immaculate heart of Mary Catholic Church or Fatima Cemetery. Note: This gentleman was the father-in-law of a paternal first cousin, Howard Sommerfeld.
