West News January 16, 2003 Julie Grmela, age 93, of Abbott passed away Saturday afternoon, January 11, 2003 at West Rest Haven. A rosary was recited 7 pm Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel by Janice Kaluza. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 am Tuesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott with Rev. Bob Strittmatter as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West. Mrs. Grmela was born September 13, 1909 in West, the daughter of Anton and Mary (Hajicek) Rejcek, Sr. She was raised in West and southern Hill County, attending school at St. Mary’s and Alligator Creek. She married Vaclav “Jim” Steve Grmela on October 30, 1933 in West. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1988. Mrs. Grmela was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott where she was active in the Ladies Altar Society. She was also a member of the KJZT Society #104. She is also preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Rejcek, Valentine Rejcek and Bob Rejcek and three sisters, Josephine Sulak, Mary Pavelka and Frances Tichavsky. Survivors include three sons, George Grmela and wife Eleanor of Waxahachie, and Paul Grmela and wife Irene and Edward Grmela, all of Abbott; a daughter, Margaret Kaska and husband Bill of Garland; two brothers, Anton V. Rejcek and wife Lois of West and Louis Rejcek and wife Mary of Covington; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Jimmy Cathey, Brady Popp, Mark Grmela, Steve Grmela, Joey Grmela, Ron Green and Richard Williams. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements
