Shiner Gazette 27 May 1965 Mrs. Ad. A. Haas, long-time resident of Moulton, passed away at the St. Benedict's Nursing Home in San Antonio Sunday, May 16, 1965 at 2:30 p.m., following a lingering illness. She attained the age of 63 years, eight months and 17 days. Nee Helen Horney, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gedius Horney, she was born August 29, 1901 in Goliad where she spent most of her childhood. On October 25, 1921 she was united in marriage to Ad. A. Haas in the Goliad Catholic Church. After their marriage the couple moved to a farm southeast of Moulton where they farmed for a livelihood until 1938. When they retired from farming, they moved to Moulton where Mr. Haas served as Public Weigher. In 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Haas purchased a furniture store from Mrs. W. F. Oehl and son, and together, operated the Haas Furniture Store until about seven years ago. Mrs. Haas was a member of a number of Moulton's organizations, the St. Joseph's Altar Society, Christian Mothers Society, the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, which attended the final rites in a body. Mrs. Haas underwent surgery in July 1964 in the Nix Hospital in San Antonio from which she never completely recovered. On April 4, 1965 she entered the St. Benedict's Nursing Home in San Antonio, which is an annex to the St. Benedict's Hospital, where she passed away six weeks later. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 19 at 8:45 a.m. from the Smith Funeral Home in Moulton and continued at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m., with the Rev. Emil Vinklarek officiating. Interment was in the Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Rosary was recited Tuesday, May 18 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Surviving Mrs. Haas are her husband, Ad. Haas of Moulton; one son, Alex Haas of San Antonio; one daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Theresia) Schraer of San Antonio; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Ben and Henry Horney of Goliad and one sister, Mrs. Tillie West of Victoria. She was preceded in death by one sister, who died at the age of six years; one brother, Alex Horney, who passed away in 1956, and her parents.
