Representative Citizen Passes to Final Reward

In the death of John F. Hajek of the Mt. Olive Section, this community, as well as Lavaca county, loses one of its foremost and representative citizens.

Following an illness extending over a period of several years, Mr. Hajek passed away at the family home, Sunday evening about 7 o'clock.

Mr. Hajek was born at Praha in Fayette county March 25th, 1868 and at the time of his death was 69 years, 2 months and 11 days old.

He was married to Miss Mary Ficl on October 4, 1887 and had he lived a few months longer, would have celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.

His passing brings the first death and first broken link in the family circle. Of the children born to this union, all survive, including Emil and Ernest Hajek of Shiner, Edward of the home circle at Mt. Olive, Mrs. F. F. Pechacek and Mrs. Julius Kutac of Flatonia, Mrs. O. S. Manning of Houston and Mrs. Ad. Bohuslav of St. Mary's. There are also 14 grand children and his devoted and faithful wife left to mourn his loss.

Surviving are his brother, Henry, living near Shiner and a sister Mrs. Katie Knesek of Lyons, Texas. Two brothers and one sister preceded him to the grave.

Mr. Hajek had lived at Flatonia many years ago, where he was engaged in the butcher business. For twenty five years he had resided on the farm in the Mt. Olive section. He was a great lover of home and devoted to his wife, whom he regretted to leave always hoping they might be called to "cross over" together. He was a devout member of the Catholic Church. Services were held from the family home Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock. The remains were then conveyed to Shiner Catholic Church for Requiem Mass. Msgr. Netardus conducted impressive religious services, assisted by Father Bily. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery. Pall bearers were Ed Bucek, Joe Marek, I. E. Valenta, Joe Hranitsky, J. H. Huebner and Henry Probst.

Mr. Hajek was a member of the O. D. H. S. and S. P. J. S. T. Lodges.

Myriads of beautiful flowers testified to the sincere regard in which he was held and bespoke fragrant messages of sympathy to those who cherished his memory, to all of whom the Gazette extends tender and abiding sympathy.
