Fayette County Record June 16, 2000 Abstract of Obituary Funeral services for Rev. William Halata, 84, of Moravia were held June 13 at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg. The main celebrant of the Funeral Mass was Bishop David Fellhauer. He was assisted by 26 other Catholic clergy. Burial followed in the Ascension Catholic Church Cemetery in Moravia. He died June 11 in Halletsville. He was born Jan 12, 1916 in Swiss Alp, the son of Joseph and Alozsia (Olsovsky) Halata. Fr. Halata served as a priest for 47 years having been ordained into the priesthool May 23, 1953. He served as asst priest at his first church, St Joseph 's in Yoakum, followed churches in Yoakum, El Campo, Schulenburg, Ganada, Edna and his last 14 years of the priesthood at Hostyn. He retired about 7 years ago making his home in Moravia. While in Schulenburg, he also taught school at Bishop Forest. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ollie Pohl of Halletsville; Mary Anders of Weimar and Barnard Halata of Houston. Survivors include 2 sisters, Leona Sooter and husband Charles of Los Angeles, Ca and Bernice Novak of Pearland; brother-in-law, Eddie Anders of Weimar; sister-in-law, Dorothy Halaty of Houston and nephews and nieces.
