Obituary of Emma Aschenbeck Jahn Yoakum - Mrs. Emma Jahn Hanzelka, nee Aschenbeck, of Yoakum, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1981 at 6:30 p.m. in Yoakum Memorial Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with the Rev. D.I. Dolton officiating.

Burial followed in Shiner City Cemetery.

Her grandsons served as pallbearers.

Emma Hanzelka, one of 10 children was born Oct. 28, 1900, at Weimar, Colorado County, Texas, daughter of John E. and Johanna (Flessner) Aschenbeck. Her parents, and their infant son, Emil, who was born aboard ship, came to America in November 1891 from Oldenburg, Germany and settled near Weimar. During her infancy the family moved to Lavaca County and established their home at Witting.

She was married to Leopold Jahn. The couple made their home in Yoakum where they reared their two sons. Mr. Jahn died in a tragic truck-train accident Jan. 5, 1948.

In later years, she married William Hanzelka. They continued to make their home in Yoakum. Both were residents at Yoakum Memorial Nursing Home for several years. Mr. Hanzelka died four months ago on Aug. 2, 1981.

Surviving are two sons, Leo Jahn Jr. of Schulenburg and Elo Jahn of Yoakum; two sisters, Mrs. Rudy (Laura) Herchek of Yoakum, Mrs. Emil (Linda) Berger of Shiner; a brother, Arthur Aschenbeck of Hallettsville; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her mother, Feb. 1, 1932; her father, July 6, 1954; four brothers, Emil A. Aschenbeck, Aug. 21, 1949; John F. Aschenbeck, Nov. 14, 1949; George D. Aschenbeck, Mar. 19, 1956; Willie F. Aschenbeck, Mar. 16, 1977; two sisters, Mrs. Gus (Henrietta) Mozisek (who was first married to Ben Laake), Feb. 14, 1951; Mrs. Louis (Martha) Muenich, July 19, 1969.
