Evelyn Virgie Frels Kainer of El Campo passed away at her home on September 21, 2004. She was 88 years old. She was born on October 4, 1915 in Jones Creek Community to the late Edward Leo and Birdie Henkhaus Frels. Mrs. Kainer was a lifetime resident of El Campo. Evelyn attended school at Jones Creek School, transferring to Nazareth Academy in Victoria and graduated from El Campo High School in 1933. She worked in her father's grocery store in Jones Creek before attending Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos. She would teach during the school year and go to school during the summers and graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1943. She began her teaching career at Isaacson School in 1938. Throughout her career she also taught at Jones Creek School, Stockdale High School, Crescent High School and ended her teaching career with 15 years in St. Philip's Catholic School. Since retirement from teaching, "Memo" as she was so affectionately called, devoted herself to family, church, and community. She will be remembered for her kindness, gentleness, and compassion for others. She was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church. She actively contributed time to the Lazarus Choir at St. Philip the Apostle Church, Catholic Daughters of America Court Our Lady Queen of Peace #1374, Woman's Club, BEEs and Garden Club. She was awarded El Campo's Citizen of the Year for 2002. Mrs. Kainer is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lucian A. Kainer of El Campo; Children-Dorothy Jane "Dot" Hermansen and husband Ellwood of El campo, Gwen Byers and husband Dean of San Antonio, Patty Duncan and husband Curtis of El Campo, Donnie Kainer and wife Mary Ann of El Campo, and Jimmy Kainer and wife Bobby Jean of El Campo; fourteen grandchildren-Scott Anthony Byers and wife Becky of San Antonio, Melissa Ann Kainer Erwin and husband Ed of El Campo, Amy Michele Byers Budd and husband Tyler of Corpus Christi, Susan Elaine Hermansen of Houston, Clint Allen Kainer and wife Rebecca of San Francisco, California, Charles Ellwood Hermansen of Houston, Ginger Maurine Duncan of Houston, Tyson Kainer Duncan of College Station, Brian Reed Kainer of College Station, Hillary Nicole Duncan of College Station, Sarah Elizabeth Kainer of College Station, Natalie Evelyn Kainer of El Campo, Brent James Kainer of El Campo, and Katherine Jean "Katie" Kainer of El Campo; five great-great-grandchildren-Megan Byers, Brooke Byers, Kaitlyn Byers, Kade Budd, and Kylee Budd; sisters-Juanita Jenkins and husband Lowell of Templeton, California, Allene Jensen of El Campo, Margaret Watz and husband Floyd of El Campo, Dorothy Johnston and husband Doug of McKinney, and Birdie Mae Stolle and husband A.J. of Wharton. Visitation will begin on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at Triska Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Philip's Catholic Church in El Campo. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philip's Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons-Scott Byers, Clint Kainer, Charles Hermansen, Tyson Duncan, Reed Kainer, and Brent Kainer. Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters. Special Honorary Pallbearers are Caregivers, Janet Harvey, Linda Reckaway, Lillie Cervenka, Josie Lopez, Diane Hubenak, Gwen Williams, Dorothy DeLaO, Zelma Shelton, Irene Sedlock, Erlinda Davila, Janie Probst, and Dominga Romos and Eucharistic Ministers Judy Waligura, Jarrell Nohavitza, and Larry Hoelsher.
