Victoria Advocate January 12, 2000. Ray H. Kalich, age 68, of Victoria, died Monday evening. He was born Jan. 6, 1932 in Victoria, to the late R.D. and Louisa Kalich. He was retired from Union Carbide after 40 years of service. He was an active Lavaca County rancher and Distribution Manager for Thrifty Nickel. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church where he was an active usher. He was an Honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1329 where he had served as Grand Knight as well as other offices. He served as the State Fund Raising Chairman for the Diocese of Victoria in the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Serra Club of Victoria, veteran of the Korean War, and received an Honorable Discharge as Sergeant. He was a member of the South Texas Baseball Officials Association, managed and umpired Little League and Teen Age League and umpired High School, College and Semi-Pro Baseball. He played and managed teams at Union Carbide, St. Mary's, Our Lady of Victory and Fordyce Softball Teams. He was a member of the VFW Post. Survived by his wife, Gaye Nell of 42 years; daughters, Karla Kalich Christensen of Vienna, Virginia and Kori Kalich of Houston; son, Kevin Ray Kalich of Victoria, sisters, Lil Hausmann and Nell Shumbera, both of Victoria; brother, C.A. (Bob) Kalich of Victoria; two grandchildren Kelsey and Kasey Kalich; and two step-grandchildren: Brittanie and Kory O'Connor. He was also preceded in death by one brother: Roy Kalich. Services will be held Friday, 9:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Cathedral. Rev. Michael Harrold, Msgr. Dennis Darilek, Rev. E.A. Hermes and Rev. Kirby Hlavaty, will officiate the entombment to follow at Resurrection Mausoleum. A rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral. Friends who so desire may make contributions to St. Joseph Endowment Fund.
