We honor David Kalinec, Sr., beloved husband, father, son and brother who passed away September 15, 2002 after a long battle with leukemia. Throughout the course of David's illness, he showed incredible courage and faith. He never complained or waivered in his fight, and most importantly, he never lost his wonderful smile. David was born January 15, 1947 in Bryan, Texas. Although cut short, David lived a life full of enrichment, fulfillment, honor, and achievement. David succeeded in all that he did including graduating from Allen Military Academy after which he entered the military serving for eight years. He was honorably discharged in 1979 with the rank of Captain. He then went to work as Operations Manager for, what was at the time, the largest and best steel distributor in the Southwest. There he made many close and personal friends. David is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years Linda De St. Paer-Kalinec, sons David, Jr. and Chris Kalinec, daughter Tiffany Kalinec, mother Mary Kalinec, brothers William, Robert, Ronnie, and Michael Kalinec and sister Jeanie Kalinec O'Brien. David is also survived by other family, friends, and loved ones. The family of David would like to thank all of the wonderful and caring people who helped him during his illness, including the faculty and staff of the Baylor College of Medicine and in particular, Dr. George Carrum, Head of Cell & Gene Therapy, and Dr. Bart of St. Luke's Hospital. Also Drs. Gangully, Popat, Rimawi, Heslop, Krance, and Ho. We also want to thank the nurses and personal care assistants at Baylor, Peggy, Gloria, Lee, Jody, Kerri, Lindy, Ms. David, Narci, Vicky, Millie, Audrey, Jean, Giann, Yolanda, Alba, Annette, Stella and his favorite pca's, Anna and Adrian. In the Infusion section, Beverly, Mei, Denise, Crystal, Goldie, Toni, Irene, Ellena, Ella, Chiquitta, and Carlous. Lastly, we want to thank David's special friend, the Reverend Gene Pemberton, Chaplain of the Houston Astros who was always there to lend his time, support and comfort despite his many obligations. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 17 at 11am at St. Joseph's Church in Bryan, Texas. A Rosary will be held 7:00 pm, Monday night at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers include Tony Zemanek, Donald Piwonka, Bob Prihoda, Bill Johnson, Terry Wayne Coleman, and Leon Taylor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Baylor College of Medicine, Center for Cell and Gene Therapy, 8th Floor, 6565 Fannin St., Houston, Texas 77030 or St. Joseph's Church, Bryan, Texas.
