Mary Ann Hruzek Kalmus, 64, of Wharton, died March 10, 2001, in Houston.

Funeral services were March 12 at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis with Rev. Richard Johnson, S.C.J. Burial was at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery in Wallis.

Pallbearers were Jim Hruzek, Darrell Kalmus, Sean Walker, Michael Stoelke, Bryan Hruzek and Douglas Hruzek. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Watkins and Conor Watkins.

She was born in East Bernard to Raymond J. and Annie Kubes Hruzek. She was raised in Orchard and was a graduate of Orchard High School.

On May 19, 1957, she married Silvin Kalmus at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis. She was a homemaker all her life, and was a member of the KJZT, the Catholic Daughters organization and a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond J. Hruzek.

She is survived by her husband, Silvin Kalmus of Wharton; her mother, Annie Hruzek of Wharton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirleen and Thomas Watkins of Katy, Sharon and Charles Wuensche of Spring, and Shelly and Sean Walker of Richmond; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Paula Kalmus of Houston; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben and Joyce Hruzek, Gus and Carol Hruzek, Ray and Esther Hruzek; and two grandchildren, Matthew Watkins and Conor Watkins.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, Texas 77488 or the American Cancer Society, Wharton County Unit, Grace Gladden – memorial chairman, 204 E. Second St., Wharton, Texas 77488.

Knesek & Sons Funeral Home in Wallis was in charge of the arrangements.
