Shiner Gazette 16 Mar 1939 A host of sorrowing relatives and friends gathered Thursday morning March 9th to pay tribute to the memory of Mrs. Anna Kasper, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paul Kempe, on Tuesday, March 7th at 4 p. m. After a short service at the home conducted by Rev. E. Bily the procession wended its way to the Catholic Church were Requiem High Mass was celebrated for the repose of her soul. Intement was made in the Shiner City Cemetery with Father Bily in charge of all the services. Pall bearers were her grandsons Paul and E. J. Kempe, E. J. Henkhaus, Julius Mikulenka, Ben and Edward Kasper. The funeral was very largely attended and myriads of beautiful flowers adorned her funeral mound voicing the esteem in which she was held and breathing fragrant messages of sympathy to those who held her near and dear. Mrs. Kasper, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. John Brod was born at New Ulm, November 6, 1852. In 1870 she was united in marriage to John Kasper. They made their home in Flatonia until 1882 when they moved to Shiner. After her husband's death in 1911, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Paul Kempe, where under the solicitude of loving hands and hearts she was given every attention throughout the evening of her life. Survivng are 3 children: Mrs. Paul Kempe and Ed. A. Kasper of Shiner and Ferd Kasper of Hermleigh, Texas, one brother, Nick Brod of Comfort. Fourteen grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Three children preceded her in death: William who died in infancy, Mrs. Elo Henkhaus in 1918 and John Kasper in 1936. Deceased was an upright and true christian character and will be sadly missed by her loved ones. She died as she lived, in confidence of her Lord and Master. And thus we pass, one by one, over the River of Death and to the land where there is no sickness and sorrow, and troubles and trials are no more. We wish our loved ones back with us, but God knows best. We bow to His will. We grieve with the sorrowing relatives and friends and commend them to the All-seeing-Father for solace.
