Bay City - Chad Machart, 9, died in a Houston hospital following a long illness.

He was born July 20, 1977, in Bay City.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial will be in Cedarville Cemetery in Bay City with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Linda and John Merck, Jr. of Bay City; his father, Charles Machart of Bay City; a sister, Terah Machart of Bay City; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Strnadel Sr. of El Campo; his paternal grandmother, Sophie Machart of El Campo.
