Shiner - George J. Machart, 62, of Shiner died Friday in a San Antonio hospital.

Born Sept. 21, 1923, in Lavaca County to the late Frank M. and Victoria Janca Machart, he was owner of a rural Shiner grocery store and retired from Otto Goedecke Cotton Firm.

A musician, he was organizer of the George Machart Orchestra.

He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Kubena Funeral Home of Hallettsville.

A parish rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

A society rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home until 2 p.m. Sunday.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Wagner Machart of Shiner; a daughter, Doris Pustka of Hallettsville; and two grandchildren.
