Jim Machart Sr. of Shiner, age 80 years and 6 days, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 1974 at the Shiner Hospital. He was stricken suddenly while attending a family reunion in Moulton.

The body lay in state at the Buffington Funeral Home, Shiner, until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, when it was conveyed to Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church where Holy Mass was offered at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. Sam Heitkamp.

Burail was in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons, Dennis, Robert and James Machart, all of Shiner; Leonard Olshovsky of Clute, Tommy Clawson and Ernest Olshovsky of Danbury.

Rosary was recited at the Buffington Chapel Monday, August 5 at 7:30 by the parish, led by the Rev. Pat Fidgeon and at 7:45 p.m. by the KJT members led by Henry Zabransky.

Vaclav "Jim" Machart, the eldest of 12 children was born July 28, 1894 at Engle, Fayette County, Texas, son of Vaclav and Maria (Riha) Machart, both natives of Netolice Czechoslovakia. A few years later they moved to Praha and about 190 (last digit cut off), to Lavaca County a few miles east of Shiner.

He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in early childhood in the Catholic Church and was a member of the Shiner Catholic Church and a member of KJT Lodge No. 20 since 1920. He received his 50-year pin in 1970.

On November 9, 1915, he was married to Katie Svatek in the Shiner Catholic Church, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Francis Machan.

The couple first resided at Sweet Home for several years and then for about 42 years on Rt. 2, Shiner in the Midway Community, farming for their livelihood. In 1967, they retired and moved to Shiner making their home at N. Ave E until January 21, 1974 when he entered the Trinity Lutheran Home. His wife died 11 months ago on September 9, 1973. Six children were born to this marriage union.

Surviving are two sons, Bohumil J. and Jimmie Machart, both of Shiner; three daughters, Mrs. Rudy (Mary) Olshovsky of Danbury, Mrs. Henry (Agnes) Guetebler of Port Lavaca, Mrs. Leroy (Emilie) Beyer, of Houston; four brothers, John Machart of Stafford, Raymond Machart of El Campo, Bohumil Machart of Garwood, Willie Machart of Plainview; two sisters, Mrs. Otto (Rosie) Nemec of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Jim (Ludmilla) Fikac of Shiner; 16 grandchildren, and 23 great- grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a 4-day-old son, Adolph, June 7, 1922; his father, October 1, 1952; his mother, March 30, 1952; four brothers, August Frank Machart, November 29, 1961; Frank E. Machart, January 13, 1972; Stanley and Martin Machart; one sister, Mrs. John (Mary) Siegel, July 15, 1957.
