Larry James Machicek, 29 years, 6 months and 20 days of Houston, and formerly of Hallettsville, died Sunday, September 21, 1997.

A rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Friday, September 26 at Kubena Funeral Home chapel and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 27 at Sacred Heart Church prior to funeral services.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Peters officiating.

Burial was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Kubena Funeral Home, Hallettsville.

Pallbearers were Paul Marchant, Maarten Almering, Jeff Reilly, Tom Machicek, Bobby Machicek, Paul Machicek, Don Machicek and Kevin Wise.

He was born March 1, 1968, in Hallettsville to Alois and Joyce Shimek Machicek. He was a chemical engineer for ABB Lumas-Global of Houston and a member of Sacred Heart Church in Hallettsville. He was the 1986 Sacred Heart High School salutatorian and graduation from the University of Texas at Austin in December 1991, with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.

Through his work he was able to travel through South Africa, stay in Holland for one year, go to various places throughout Europe and he also spent seven months in South America.

He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Carol M. Machicek of Hallettsville, and Sandra E. Machicek of Austin; one brother, Steven A. Machicek of Hallettsville; and grandmother, Lillie Shimek of Schulenburg.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents.
