Schulenburg - Mary Riha Machicek of Route 4, Schulenburg, died at 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 1987 shortly after an apparent stroke, in the La Grange Memorial Hospital. She reached the age of 89 years, 11 months and 3 days. Mrs. Machicek was born Sept. 12, 1897 at Praha, Fayette County, Texas, daughter of Martin and Rosie (Holek) Riha. She attended school at Engle and married August Machicek in 1916 at St. Mary's Church in Praha. A housewife, she was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and a member of St. Mary's Church. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Filice officiating. Burial followed in Schulenburg City Cemetery, with Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were grandsons, Jerry Machicek of Schulenburg, Jimmie Machicek of Garden City, Benjamin Machicek of Tyler, Dennis Machicek of Point Comfort, Julius Machicek Jr. of Schulenburg, Steve Machicek of Austin, Robert Machicek of San Antonio and Robert J. Maly of Shiner. A rosary, led by Father Filice, was recited at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Chapel in Schulenburg, where the body lay in state. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Adolph (Rosie) Maly of Moulton, Miss Agnes Machicek of Houston; six sons, Frank Machicek of Point Comfort, John Machicek of Point Comfort, Adolph Machicek of Victoria, Henry Machicek of Amarillo, James Machicek of San Antonio and Julius Machicek Sr. of Schulenburg; 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Apr. 30, 1967; two sons, Joe Machicek, Mar. 4, 1973; Max Machicek; and three brothers, J.J. Riha, Lawrence Riha and Frank Riha.
