Eugene Edward "Gene" Machu, 75 of Taylor, died at Scott & White Hospital in Temple on Monday, May 20, 2002. Celebration of Life Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylor with the Rev. James Mann officiating. Burial to follow at Taylor City Cemetery. Eugene was born at Coupland, Texas on Sept. 6, 1926, the son of Edward Rudolph and Louise (Holubec) Machu and step-mother Winnie Klima Machu. Eugene was retired from Travis State School and also served in the U.S. Navy. Eugene loved fishing, hunting, dealing with antiques and collectibles, gardening and flowers, especially roses. He loved music having played on Taylor's KTAE Radio Station from 1948-1950 and also as backup guitarist to some Grand 'Ole Opry stars in Nashville, Tennessee. Eugene married Effie Krueger on June 29, 1969 who survives him. Also surviving him are brothers, Johnnie F. and wife Aileen and Howard and wife Bonnie all of Taylor, sisters Melba Roepke and husband Gene, and Lorene Machu all of Taylor, and Mildred O'Brien and husband, Lloyd of Round Rock. Numerous nieces, nephews, several other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Ethan Alan Machu, Roger Seggern, Craig Sini, Ralph Werchan II, William Werchan and Felix Pavlicek, Jr.
