Lera L. Nemecek, age 77, of Corpus Christi, formerly of West, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2003 in Corpus Christi.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nemecek was born on September 18, 1925 in Aquilla, the daughter of Ernest and Amy Saylors. She attended schools in Hillsboro. She married Joseph H. Nemecek on December 13, 1947 in Abbott. Lera was a homemaker and loved to cook and bake. She was know for her cookies and chess pie and cater for several organizations in the Corpus Christi area. She was a member of the American Sokol, SPJST Lodge #79 of Corpus Christi, the Corpus Christi Circle of Women VFW Post #4819 Ladies Auxiliary in West. She was also a member of St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church in Corpus Christi.

She is preceded in death by her sisters, Melba McKay, Audrey Rodgers and Louise Kaffee.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Joseph H. Nemecek of Corpus Christi.

Pallbearers will be Alfred Hlavenka, Richard Hlavenka, Eddie Archer, Clifford Archer, Brian Muska and Dean Muska.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Caner Society or Sokol Hall, 5502 Kostohryz, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.

Aderhold Funeral Home in West is in charge of arrangements.
