Mrs. Joe Nevlud, nee Mary Smolik, of Pearland, formerly of Mont, died at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 1983 in League City at the Daywind Village nursing home after an extended illness. She attained the age of 87 years, 6 months and 4 days. The body was brought to St. Mary's Catholic Church, west of Hallettsville and lay in state until 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7 when Holy Mass was offered by her nephew, the Rev. Greg Nevlud of San Antonio and concelebrant, the Rev. Msgr. Henry Psencik, pastor of St. Mary's. Burial took place in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons, Mark, Jerry and Philip Nevlud, James Jeffery and Joel Stryk. Mrs. Nevlud, one of six children, was born Dec. 31, 1895 in the Mont- Sweet Home area, Lavaca County, Texas, daughter of Joseph and Emily (Haverland) Smolik. She was reared on the family farm and attended the nearby rural school. On Nov. 10, 1919, she was married to Joe A. Nevlud, a native of Frycovice, Czechoslovakia in St. Mary's Catholic Church and the couple established their home on a farm near Mont where they resided until their retirement. In 1974, the couple moved to Pearland to be near their daughter and son-in-law. The couple observed their 60th wedding anniversary in 1979. Her husband died May 10, 1980. Surviving are a son Jaro Nevlud of Houston; a daughter, Mrs. Alfred (Marie) Stryk of Pearland; one sister, Mrs. James (Lucy) Prasek of Houston; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, in 1924; her mother, in 1928; two sisters, Mrs. Frank A. (Annie) Nevlud, May 30, 1960; Mrs. Henry J. (Agnes) Strauss, May 27, 1980; two brothers, Louis L. Smolik, Jan. 25, 1961; and John J. Smolik, Jan. 5, 1963.
