6/18/1903 - 3/19/1966 John V. Novak, 62, well known farmer of route 2, Hallettsville died at his home Wed., March 16, at 5:20 P. m. He was found hanging and had evidently committed suicide. Funeral services were scheduled for 9:15 a. m. at the Kubena Funeral Home, and at 9:30 a. m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, Friday, March 18th. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The deceased was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the KJT. He was born in Lavaca County, June 18, 1903, and farmed in the Moravia community north of Hallettsville all his life. - On Sept. 3, 1930, he married Miss Annie Pargac at Moravia Catholic Church, Surviving, are his wife; three daughters Mrs. Albert (Leonella) Klekar of Moravia, Mrs. Willie Mae Migl of Hallettsville and Miss Ann Marie Novik at home; three brothers: Frank of Moulton, Charlie of Hallettsville and Joe Novak of Houston and four sisters; Mrs. Raymond Pargac of Schulenburg Mrs. Willie Barborak of Moulton, Mrs. B. F. Hill of Houston and Mrs. Willie Krhoviak of Moravia and 8 grandchildren. Rosaries will be recited as follows: 7:45 p. m. by Sacred Heart Parish and at 8:00 p. rn. by the KJT. at the Kubena Funeral Home Thurs., March 17th. His parents were the late. Charlie Novak and Mary Muhlstein Novak. Mr. Novak was found hanging in a barn.; he had told his family members that he was going too milk the cows as usual. Sheriff Ronnie Dodds and Justice of the Peace Oscar Shoemake, were called to the scene, and Mr. Shoemake's verdict at the inquest was suicide by hanging. Mr. Novak had been in ill health for some time. The Kuhena Funeral Home ambulance brought the body to the funeral home here.
