He was born June 17, 1911, in Inez, to the late John Jr. and Martha Prukop Obsta. He worked for CPL and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Cathedral. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. Survivors: wife, Irene Martin Obsta of Victoria; daughter, Jamie Bazar of Victoria; sister, Elgie Whalen of Victoria; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: son, Alan Martin Obsta; parents; sisters, Launa Marling and Mary Lee Hillman; brothers, Francis Obsta and Edgar Obsta; and one granddaughter, Shannon Obsta. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight at Colonial Funeral Home chapel. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral, Msgr. Michael Harrold and the Rev. Ty Bazar officiating. Burial with full military honors, under the auspices of Victoria Veterans Council, VFW, CWV, DAV, Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion, Marine Corps League, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Crossroads Ex-POWs and the Military Order of the World Wars will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
