West News January 9, 2003 CMSgt. Edwin Joe Pavelka, USAF Ret., of Waco, age 79, died Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at a Temple hospital. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated at 2 pm Saturday, January 4 at St. Louis Catholic Church with the Rev. Monsignor Mark Deering officiating. Burial followed at Waco Memorial North. Rosary was recited at 8 pm Friday, January 3 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Visitation with the family was from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Pavelka was born September 10, 1923 in mart, Texas. He married Leona Klish on June 30, 1947 in West. Beginning on December 7, 1942, he served in the U.S. Army-Air Corp. and flew on 35 bombing mission. Mr. Pavelka continued his military career in the Air Force until his retirement in 1968, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Since his retirement, he had resided in Waco. He was preceded in death by his wife and his daughter, Carolyn Pack. Survivors include his daughters, Michele Arnada and Carolyn Pavelka; sons, David Pavelka and wife, Tamera and Paul Pavelka and wife, Suzi; sister, Willie Mae Veselka; brothers, Charlie Pavelka, Robert Pavelka, and Eldon Pavelka, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, who lived life with strength, kindness, and honor.
