Waco Tribune-Herald Wed. April 18, 2001 Byline Marlin Jim Pavelka, 82, passed away Monday, April 16, 2001. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday (April 19) at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Peter Royal & the Rev. Lawrence Soler officiating. Interment will be at Riesel Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Chapel. Jim Pavelka was born on Dec. 27, 1918, in Penelope, the son of Joe F. and Bertha Kosek Pavelka. He was a retired farmer and had been a resident of Falls County since 1939. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Marlin where he was active in the Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army from 1942 until 1945, where he received two purple hearts. Mr. Pavelka married Bertha Gregor on Nov. 4, 1950 in Marlin. He was a devoted family man and loved his garden. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe, Frank, Louie, John, Ray and Louis Pavelka, Mary Sykora and Julia Sykora. Survivors include his wife, Bertha Pavelka of Marlin; daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Tom Garcia of Marlin; sister, Tillie Gilmore of Hereford, Texas; and grandchildren, Suzanne and Margaret Garcia of Marlin.
