Vestnik Jan 31, 2001 Abstract of Obituary Funeral services for Sophie (Mechell) Pavlas, 94, of West were held Dec 16 at the West Brethren Church with the Rev Don Ketcham officiating. Burial followed at West Brethren Cemetery. She died Dec 12 in Waco. She was born Mar 22, 1906 in Hill County, the daughter of John and Louise Mechell. She married Albin Pavlas on Feb 1, 1926 in West, Tx. She was a farmer and homemaker. She enjoyed quiliting, canning and working in her garden. She was a member of SPJST Lodge 6 in Cottonwood and the West Brethren Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec 26, 1981. Survivors include her son, Alvin Pavlas and wife Mary of West; sister, Ruth
Krizan of West; 3 grandchildren, Ann Walls of Dallas, Betty Jean Orler and
husband Philip and Danny Pavlas and wife Rhonda, all of West; 8
great-grandchildren, Amber Moore, Ahsley Walls, Jared, Josh, Jake and Justin

Funeral services were held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 16 at the West Brethren Church with the Reverend Don Ketcham officiating. Burial followed at West Brethren Cemetery near West. The family received visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 15 at the funeral home. Mrs. Pavlas was born March 22, 1906 in Hill County, the daughter of John and Louise Mechell. She married Albin Pavlas on February 1, 1926 in West. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1981. She was a homemaker and farmer. Sophie enjoyed quilting, canning and working in her garden. She was a member of the SPJST Lodge 6 in Cottonwood and the West Brethren Church. She is survived by one son, Alvin Pavlas and his wife, Mary of West; one sister, Ruth Krizan of West; three grandchildren, Ann Walls of Dallas, Betty Jean Orler and her husband, Philip and Danny Pavlas and his wife, Rhonda, all of West; eight great-grandchildren, Amber Moore, Ashley Walls, Jared, Josh, Jake and Justin Orler and Kalyn and Ethan Pavlas; several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to West Ambulance Association Building Fund or West Brethren Church. Aderhold Funeral Home in West is in charge of arrangements.
