Victoria Advocate April 26, 2002 Florence M. Payne, of Victoria, lovingly known as "Puddin" went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2002. She was born March 11,1932, to Frank and Julia Miksch in the small community of Holman, Texas. Her family moved to Victoria when she was 10 years old. Florence attended Victoria's Nazareth Academy, and graduated in 1950. Florence began serving the public at an early age. She worked for her father at the old Farmer's Cafe on S. Main Street. Mr. Miksch taught Florence a very valuable lesson, one that she practiced all of her life. Florence Payne treated all her customers the same way she wanted to be treated. Florence married Harlan Payne on Tuesday, January 16, 1951. They were blessed with two children, Monica "Sugar" Payne Joost and John D. Payne. Florence began her career at First Victoria National Bank on August 8, 1953. She worked as a mail teller, drive-thru teller, assistant Cashier and Officer and Vice President and Manager of Colony Creek Branch. Florence was loved and respected by her many employees and peers in the banking industry. She set an example or those she leaves behind, to always reach high and strive to achieve our goals. Florence gave First Victoria National Bank over 40 years of dedicated service. Florence was a pioneer in many ways; she was always looking for a new challenge in her life. She was the 1st woman Rotarian in Victoria, belonging to the Sunrise Rotarians. Florence was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was a dedicated member of the Altar Society at Our Lady of Lourdes and served as a past president. Florence was a member of the American Business Women's Association as well as the International Women's Bankers Association. She was a member of the Serra Club. She was a proud member of the Pink Ladies of Citizens Hospital. Florence was a charter member of the First Ladies of First Victoria National Bank. Florence served as a founding board member of the Crossroads Foundation in Victoria. Florence is survived by her husband of 51 years, Harlan Payne, daughter Monica "Sugar" Payne Joost, son-in-law Tommy Joost and son John D. Payne and daughter-in-law Lois Payne. Her beloved grandchildren, who fondly called Florence their "Gee," are Matthew Payne, Julie Joost, George Joost and Will Joost. Sisters, Rose Nelon of Victoria, Erma Beal, of El Campo and Mildred Langston of Lubbock. Florence was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Julia Miksch, her brothers, John Miksch and Frank Miksch, and sisters, Mary Mazoch, Millie Kosler, and Ann Townsend. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at Rosewood Funeral Home. The Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. Services will be held Friday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Father Hermes and Father Say will concelebrate the service. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. Pallbearers: Matthew Payne, Julie Joost, George Joost, Will Joost, Dr. Walter Brzozowske, Monica Rodriquez and Shirley Chumchal.
