Galveston Daily News 17 Mar 1938 Mrs. D.T. Hayman Rites Will Be At Honey Island The body of D.T. Hayman, 40, of 5219 O½, who was fatally injured in an automobile mishap at 53d and S½ about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, was forwarded to Honey Island late yesterday by J. Levy & Bro. for funeral services and interment. Mrs. Hayman who is survived by relatives in Honey Island, died at John Sealy Hospital about an hour after being hit by an automobile. Justice of the Peace Randolph Pierson said death was due to internal hemorrages but that he had not returned a verdict in connection with the fatal accident. Robert O. Lehman, young medical corps private at Fort Crockett, was at
liberty under bond following his arrest by Police Officers Floyd Hall and
Richard Tinney on a charge of negligent homicide in connection with the
accident. Justice of the Peace R.M. Kupsa was slated to hold an examining trial

Pechacek The Galveston Daily News Woman is Fatally Injured When Hit by Auto Fort Crockett Soldier Charged; Two Hurt in Another Mishap One woman was killed, and a man and woman were painfully injured in two automobile traffic accidents here yesterday, according to Galveston police. Mrs. D.T. Hayman, about 40, 5219 O½, died at John Sealy Hospital at 9:30 p.m., about an hour after she had been struck by an automobile at 35d and S½ while she was proceeding along 53d and crossing S½. Robert O. Lehman, young medical corps private at Fort Crockett, arrested by Police Officers Floyd Hall and Richard Tinney in connection with the accident, told police he telephoned friends at Fort Crockett and assisted in taking the injured woman to the fort's hospital for emergency treatment. Mrs. Hayman was transferred to John Sealy Hospital shortly afterward by a J. Levy and Bro. ambulance, and she succumbed about 9:30 p.m. Attendants at the hospital said Mrs. Hayman suffered a possible skull fracture, fractures of the nose, one jaw, and a rib; a chest injury, a forehead laceration, and hip injuries. They also said both her eyes were blackened and that she had lost several front teeth. Police stated Justice of the Peace Randolph Pierson was notified to hold an inquest. Lehman was booked at police headquarters on a charge of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle at 9:18 p.m. on a complaint filed by Officer Hall, and the charge was changed at 10:06 p.m. to one of negligent homicide. James Clark, 2020 23d, and Cecilia Brewer, 2412 E, were treated at John Sealy Hospital yesterday suffered at 7:15 a.m. yesterday when the car in which they were riding skidded on wet pavement, turned over and crashed into an iron fence and two trees on the lawn of the Maco Stewart home, 1120 23d, according to police. Clark, driver of the car, suffered cuts about the hand, police stated, and the woman suffered severe bruises and cuts about her body. They were conveyed to the hospital in a J. Levy and Bro. ambulance for treatment. Police said that besides damage to a portion of the fence and the two trees, the automobile was a complete wreck. Officers C.J. Lewis and Bob Leonard investigated. Note: For some reason, she was listed in the newspaper as Denese Teel Hayman
