WILLIE JOE (BILL) SCHAEFER

We are gathered here this afternoon to pay our tributes to the beloved Mr. W. J. "Bill" Schaefer, who passed from this world to the next, Thursday, May 29th, 1958 at 6:00 in the morning at his home in Schulenburg, Texas.

Although he was perhaps not in the best of health, neither did suffer greatly, but rather was he comparatively active until his death. We thank God that pain and suffering was spared this servant of His.

Mr. Schaefer was born in Schulenburg, Texas on the 29th day of April 1893, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sigmund T. Schaefer who were pioneer settlers of Schulenburg. The same home that provided his protection at his birth was the same home that he lived all of his life.

Mr. Schaefer was baptized in the Christian Church as a child, spent two years in the service of his country during World War I, of which 18 month were spent overseas in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion and of the local Masonic Lodge. He served as a ginner in this community until about 10 years ago when he retired. Since then, he did carpenter work. His father passed away in 1922, and Mr. Schaefer became the backbone of the family, taking his father's place in handling of the family affairs.

He is survived by two sister: Miss Hettie Schaefer and Mrs. Edna Sobotik, both of Schulenburg. Two sisters, Ida and Annie, and two brothers, George and Adolf, preceded him in death.

Mr. Schaefer shared his life with us for 65 years and one month. Along with his family and loved ones, he is survived by many relatives and a great many friends who mourn the loss and give comfort to the sorrowing through words, flowers, thoughtfulness and prayer.

Rev. Frank Henry Horak, Jr. performing the service.
