JOE A. SCHILLER

 

Last rites for Mr. Joe A. Schiller, father of Mrs. Tom Slovacek of Elgin, were held Thursday, October 3rd, at 1:00 p.m., at the family home near Rices Crossing with the Rev. Joseph Barton officiating. Burial was in the Taylor City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jerry Sladek, Leroy Sladek, Dan Prcen, Ruben Prcen, Houston Och, Wayland Kruger, Ben Hurta and Eddie Shoppa.

Mr. Schiller died Tuesday, October 1st at 2:00 p.m. at his home from the effects of a sudden heart attack. He was born in Houston, Texas December 16, 1867 but had lived in Travis and Williamson counties for the past 70 years and was widely known, highly respected and revered by friends throughout this section. He was a retired farmer and a man whose thrift and perseverance had made him a prominent figure in his community.

His wife, the former Annie Stiba of Taylor, and 9 children survive, 7 daughters and 2 sons. Another son, Joe, died in 1918 while serving in World War I. Also left to morn his passing are a sister in California and one in west Texas; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Schiller was a member of the Lutheran church in Taylor and a member of SPJST.

This obit was from family clippings from unidentified newspapers (probably Austin, Elgin, Taylor)

Although none of the clippings included the year, personal records of Tom Slovacek included the year of death as 1946.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Schiller and Eddie Schiller, both of Taylor; and seven daughters, Mrs. Henry Sladek, Mrs. John Greiger, Mrs. Lillie Shoppe and Mrs. Alex Martin, all of Taylor, Mrs. Tom Slovacek of Elgin, Mrs. Anton Prcin of Temple and Mrs. W. P. Horn of Oklahoma City.
