Obituary Funeral services for Chester Schmalriede, 84, of Bellville, Texas were held on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at 10 A.M. from the Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Bellville with Rev. Michael Groseclose officiating. Interment was at the National Cemetery near Nelsonville, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers were David Maresh, Werner Deser, Leland Schramm, Brian Schmalriede, Daryl Turner, Curtis Turner and Lowell Layne.

He was born Chester Edward Schmalriede in the New Breman community in Austin County to parents Fred Schmalriede and Helena Mackel Schmalriede.

He was raised in New Breman[sic] and attended the New Breman[sic] Schools. Mr. Schmalriede served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked all his life as a farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Nelsonville Brethren Church and a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Chester Edward Schmalriede died Monday, March 12, 2001 in Columbus, Texas.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Alice and J.C. White of Nelsonville; sister Eleanor Turner of Navasota; sister-in-law Evelyn Schmalriede of Houston; good friend Olivia Schramm and her family; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Helena Schmalriede; sister Wilma Maresh; brother-in-law Edmund Maresh; brother William Schmalriede; and brother-in-law Jack Turner.

Funeral services held under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels, 34 North Masonic St., Bellville, TX 77418 (979) 865-3121.
