Fayette County Record Feb. 6, 1998 Abstract of Obituary Funeral services for Madeline Mae Schmid, 77, of Shelby were held Jan. 28 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby. The Rev. Don Cole officiated with burial in the Shelby Cemetery. Mrs. Schmid died Jan. 26 in Shelby. Born in New Ulm June 11, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Henrietta (Krause) Schweke. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Aurel (Buster) Bruening and Ann and Nelson Aschenbeck, all of Shelby; five grandchildren and their spouses, Joan and Elbert Bruening, Wanda and Keith Meier, Roger and Kristen Bruening, Ryan and Stacy Aschenbeck and Sarah and Kevin Bertsch; five great-grandchildren, Philip, Kaylyn and Kyle Brune and Megan and Michell Meier; one brother, Clarence Schweke of New Ulm; one sister and her husband, Bernetta dn Leroy Grebe of Bellville; a sister-in-law, Erma Jean Schweke of Victoria; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother Desmond. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Koenig-Peel & Strickland.
