Shiner Gazette 27 May 1976 Joe Schovajsa Services Held Joe Schovajsa of Shiner, retired school custodian, passed away at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 1976 in the Shiner Hospital at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 12 days. He was a resident at Trinity Lutheran Home since Jan. 2, 1975. The body lay in state at the Buffington Funeral Home, Shiner, until 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20, when it was taken to the Shiner Brethren Church where services followed at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Ken Olsen and the Rev. Henry Beseda Jr. officiated. The organist was Mrs. Olga Smothers playing a number of selected hymns. Burial was in the Brethren Cemetery adjacent to the church. Serving as pallbearers were Chris Muenich and Alan Lichey of Yoakum, Henry Muenich of Austin, Jerry Vavra of Dime Box, Dennis Barta and David Little of Shiner. Mr. Schovajsa was born April 6, 1888 in Czechoslovakia, son of Frank and Mary (Tomas) Schovajsa. When he was about 12 years of age, he came to America with relatives and made his home with his brother, Frank at Shiner, who arrived here a few years earlier. On October 14, 1914, he was married to Frances Trcalek in the Shiner Brethren Church. They lived on a farm in the Shiner area for many years, then moved to their present home in Shiner. For many years he worked as a custodian at the Shiner Public School. Six children were born to this marriage union. His wife died several weeks ago on February 9, 1976. Survivors are four sons, Edwin Schovajsa of Shiner, John Schovajsa of
Victoria, Joe and Jerry Schovajsa, both of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. James
(Frances) Gandre and Mrs. George (Emily) Farek, both of Yoakum; 10 grandchildren
