West - Ben A. Schroeder, 83, of Ross passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001, at a Waco nursing home.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Kotch Funeral Home chapel in West. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Tours.

Mr. Schroeder was born July 2, 1917, in Tours. He was raised in Tours and moved to Ross in 1969. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. Mr. Schroeder was employed by General Tire and Rubber Company for 32 years. he was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and also a member of the American Legion Post #478 of West.

Mr. Schroeder married Wilhelmina Otto in 1940 and she preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 1969. He later married Georgia Sykora in 1978 and she preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 1984.

Mr. Schroeder in survived by four sons, Donald Ray Schroeder of Teague, Kenneth Schroeder of Ross, John Lee Schroeder of Leroy and Larry Schroeder of Dallas; three daughters, Dolores Sherwood of Dillon, S.C., Janette Griffin of China Spring and Cathy Patterson of West; two brothers, Anton Shroeder of lacy Lakeview and John Schroeder of El Cajon, Calif.; a sister, Angeline Schuetz of Dallas; 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
