Yoakum -- Hertha Schlenker Schroeder, 85, of Yoakum, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002.

She was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Yoakum, to the late Henry and Emma Rathkamp Schlenker. She worked at Stanley's Grocery Store and Yoakum ISD in the cafeteria. She was a member of the DeWitt County Home Demonstration Club, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Survivors: daughters, Delores Zella of Gonzales, Carolyn Schlinke of Nordheim and Geraldine Kuester of Yoakum; sister, Vieona Bishop of Del Rio; brother, Edward Schlenker of Shiner; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Alvin Schroeder; parents; and brothers, Norman Schlenker and Theo Schlenker.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Buffington Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Gary Goodson officiating. Burial will be at Hermann Sons Cemetery. Buffington Funeral Home, Yoakum, 361-293-2333.

Pallbearers: Don Smart, Terry Brasher, Clinton Schlinke, Brandon Cooper, Charles Zella and Johnny Valis.

Memorials: Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Hermann Sons Cemetery Endowment Fund.
