 MATHILDA (WAGENER) SCHULTE

Mathilda (Til) Augusta Schulte of Victoria and formerly of Orange Grove, Texas, passed away February 20, 2002, at the age of 94 years.

She was born September 30, 1907 in Dewitt County to Otto J. and Rosena Raetzsch Wagener. She grew up in Yoakum and graduated from Yoakum High School. Following graduation, she attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos where she receive her teaching certificate.

She moved to Orange Grove in 1926 and began her teaching career. In 1928, she married Victor Joseph Schulte. After her husband's death in 1961, she continued to teach school and also attended A&M University (formerly A&I University) in Kingsville where she received her degree in elementary education. She retired from her teaching career in 1973.

Mrs. Schulte was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Orange Grove. Also, she was a charter member of the Orange Grove Tuesday Study Club, a member of the Orange Crate and other community organizations. She loved people and had many friends and acquaintances in and around the Orange Grove area. She resided in Orange Grove until 1999 when she moved to Victoria.

She is survived by her son Victor J. (Totty) Schulte and his wife Geralene of Victoria, one sister, Doris Lain of Hobbs, New Mexico, two grandsons: Lynn J. Schulte and wife Lee of Meridian Mississippi, and Kynn J. Schulte and wife Laura of Arlington, Texas; four great grandchildren: Jourdan, Derek, Taylor and Cole Schulte and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, brothers Marvin Wagener, Raetzsch Wagener and Otto Wagener and also two siblings who died in infancy.

Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home chapel, 1801 E. Red River in Victoria, Texas.

Services to be Sunday, February 24, at 4 p.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 600 South Dibrell, Orange Grove, Texas.

Interment will be Monday, February 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Yoakum, Texas.

Memorials may be given to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Orange Grove, 78372, or First English Lutheran Church, 516 North Main, Victoria 77901, or donor's choice.

Pallbearers: Freddie Smith, Carol Joe Pilarczyk, Rory Riley, Jarvis Thormahlen, Wade Bode and Gene Schulte.

Honorary pallbearers: nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.
