 ALICE (PISKLAK) SCHUMANN

A Mass of the Resurrection for Alice Pisklak Schumann, 70, of Sugar Land will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Sugar Land. Father Roy Oggero, C.S.B. will be the celebrant. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Latium.

The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 702 Burney Road in Sugar Land and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 115 Seventh St. in Sugar Land with a rosary being recited at 8 p.m. On Monday, Sept. 16, visitation will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the Mass of the Resurrection.

Mrs. Schumann passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 with her family at her bedside. Her death followed a courageous battle against complications from heart surgery on June 11. During her three-month hospital stay, her devoted husband, Robert, was at her side daily.

Alice was born Sept. 22, 1931 in Latium to Emil and Rosie (Sklar) Pisklak. She graduated from Fayetteville Rural High School in 1948. In 1952, she received a B.S. degree from Texas Woman's University in Denton.

Following graduate work she taught at Travis Elementary in Rosenberg. On June 9, 1956, she married Robert Schumann, and began the challenge of her life, raising six children. This challenge led her to serve as the first woman school board member of Fort Bend ISD.

Alice was well-known in Fort Bend County for her tireless volunteer work for numerous youth and community organizations. She dedicated 30 years of service to the FFA and 4-H, was a life member of the Fort Bend County Fair Association, supporter of the Junior Fair auction, and member of numerous charitable organizations. Her generosity to others was acknowledged by being asked to serve as parade marshal of the county fair in 1988.

As a remarkable leader, Alice served as president of Fort Bend County Farm Bureau for 6 years. She was instrumental in having George W. Bush speak at the Farm Bureau county convention. She lobbied many bills for farmers on the steps of the Capital, and served as precinct election judge for 32 years.

She was perhaps best known for her fabulous cooking, and many events and occasions were blessed by her delicious recipes and were successful because of her selfless work and superb organizational skills. She enjoyed traveling, reading, researching genealogy, baking, canning and serving others.

Alice was an active member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Sugar Land, Catholic Daughters, KJZT, St. Theresa's Ladies Society and Sugar Canes.

This remarkable woman who has touched so many lives was a true saint, always giving advice, love, encouragement, time, talents and challenged others to reach their goals. She will truly be missed.

Alice is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Robert Schumann; her children, Debbie Brooks and her husband, Keith of College Station, Becky Maxey of Richmond, Tim Schumann of Sugar Land, Sandy Turner and her husband, Glenn of Sugar Land, Kathleen Neuland and her husband, Ted of Spring and Jeffrey Schumann and his wife Stephanie of Richmond. Grandchildren: Richard Brooks; Joseph, Colleen and Pamela Maxey; Nicholas and Cameron Turner; Meghan Neuland; Jordan Schumann and an expected new arrival shortly; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Max and Dorothy Schumann, of Midland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law William and Dolores Schumann, of New Braunfels; and many nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Rosie (Sklar) Pisklak; her brother Joe Pisklak; her sister and brother in-law: Margaret and Ben Tydlacka; her sister and brother in-law Dorothy and Taylor Richie; her brother in-law and sister in-law Herbert and Frances Schumann; her sister-in-law Hilda Schumann; and her nieces Patsy Tydlacka Blackburn and Mary Lynn Schumann.

Pallbearers will be past Grand Knights of St. Basil Knights of Columbus Council 4204; Gary Blanchette, Edward Borski, Jim Collins, Fredrick Trlicek, Robert Yur, Larry Zapalac and Emil Zbranek.

Acting as Honor Guards will be the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Theresa of Lisieux No. 2211, and KJZT St. Bernedette Society No. 120.
