EVELYN (HEMMI) THEISEN

After having a major stroke on March 1, Evelyn Frances Theisen died in St. Vincent Healthcare on March 8, 2003, a day before her 86th birthday.

The daughter of Gus and Frances Hemmi, Evelyn was born on March 9, 1917, at home on her family's cotton farm in Hallettsville, Texas. As a young woman, Evelyn worked in a photography studio in San Antonio, Texas. While in San Antonio, she met Wilfred Theisen at a USO dance. They were married on Jan. 9, 1946, in Hallettsville. The newlywed couple moved to Montana, where they farmed and ranched in Molt until they retired from farming in 1975.

After leaving the farm, they lived in various homes in Billings and also spent several winters in Mesa, Ariz. After Wilfred was moved to a nursing home, Evelyn continued to live in their home until she moved to an assisted living apartment at Aspen Meadows and then to Magnolia Place.

Evelyn's Catholic faith and her family were most important in her life. Her family and others were blessed by her continual prayers and rosaries. She was a long-time member of St. Thomas Church. She most enjoyed music, traveling and gardening.

She is survived by her daughters, Sister Mary Ann, Linda (Bob) Lang, Diane (Troy) Slind; her sons, Ron and Gary (Linda), all of Billings; her nine grandchildren, Bobby, Brian, and Jason Lang; Steven, Kristin, Adam, Gary Jr. Theisen, Eric and Ethan Slind; and five great- grandchildren, Decee, Mickal, Katelyn, Jennifer and Mariah Lang; her brothers, Walter and Alphonse, of Hallettsville; Texas and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Annie and Helen; her brothers, Elvin, James and Leon.

The Vigil and Rosary will be 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, at Michelotti- Sawyers Mortuary. The Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2210 Colton Blvd.

Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
