William Gus Tockhorn, Jr., 75, of Brenham died Feb 14 2002 in Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Mr. Tockhorn was born Jan 15 1927 in Burton, TX to Will and Louise Jaroeszewski Tockhorn. He was baptized March 13 1927 in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville and was confirmed Sept 21 1941 in the same church.

He was educated at Harrisburg School, Brenham High School, Blinn College, Sam Houston State University and received his master of education degree from the University of Houston. Mr. Tockhorn served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II, 1945 and 1946, and attained the rank of staff sergeant.

On Sept 17 1950 he was married to Dorothy Mae Kessler in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine by Pastor A. H. Brunotte.

Mr. Tockhorn was a school teacher for 34 years and was a school bus driver. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville, where he served on the council.

He was a member and officer of American Legion Buddy Wright Post 48 and life member of VFW James F. Dillon Post 7104. He was a life member of Texas State Teachers Association and Louise Giddings Retired Teachers Association. He was also a member and officer of Sons of Hermann Lodge 6 and Berlin, Mill Creek, and Zionsville Fire Departments.

Mr. Tockhorn loved to play cards and dance. He never met a stranger and loved people.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mae Tockhorn of Brenham; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Milroy and Jenny Joe Kessler of Pearland, John Barta of Sugar Land and Stella Kessler of Burton; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Esther Tockhorn Barta.

The funeral service will be Monday Feb 18 at 2 PM in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville with Pastor David Hall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive visitors Sun Feb 17 from 6 to 8 PM in Memorial Oaks Chapel, Brenham, TX.

Pallbearers will be Terry Hall, Jerry Pritchett, Ronnie Polasek, Donald Paul Kessler, Henry Edward Kessler, Dr. James Barta, Jeffrey Tockhorn, and Charles Ordner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Monroe Tockhorn, all retired teachers of Brenham ISD, past commanders of American Legion Buddy Wright Post 48, past presidents of Sons of Hermann Lodge 6 and Berlin, Mill Creek, and Zionsville Fire Departments.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street in Brenham TX.
