The Rev. Charles Alan Treptow, 53, pastor at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem near Brenham and husband of Barbara Sonnet Treptow, died Tuesday, Jan 15 2002.

Charlie was born in Hallettsville, TX Sept 26 1948 to Helmuth and Virginia Ziegler Treptow. He was baptized Oct 30 1948 and confirmed June 2 1963 in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville.

Charlie graduated from Hallettsville High School, received his B. A. degree in theology from Texas Lutheran College in 1971 and a Masters of Divinity from Luther Theological Seminary in 1975. In July of 1975 he was ordained in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville. On Nov 28 1998 he married Barabara Sonnet in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. Bill Derrick. The Rev. Treptow served Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts, St. John Lutheran Church in Port Arthur, Angel of Joy Lutheran Church in Lufkin and Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem in Brenham.

His club affiliations were Texas State Historical Association, Sons of Hermann Fratenral Lodge, a board member of Crosswise Camping Ministry, Brenham Mission Society and a member of Human Rights Committee of Brenham State School.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Barbara Treptow of Brenham; sons, Nathan Alan Treptow of Nacogdoches and Aaron Charles Treptow of Boston, Massachusetts; daughter, Robin Lynette Treptow of Chicago, Illinois; step-sons, Lt. Brian Clifton of Pensacola, Florida and Eric Clifton of Brenham; grandson, Austin Kade Treptow of Nacogdoches; sisters, Dorothy "Dottie" Virginia Treptow and Carolyn Jo Mooney and husband Jim, all of Hallettsville; nieces, Paula Ann Clarner and husband Steve of Pearland, Cheremy White of Washington, D. C. and Melissa Russell of San Antonio.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Helmuth and Virginia Zeigler Treptow; and a sister, Patricia Ann Russell.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan 17 from 6 to 8 PM in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday, Jan 18, 2002, at 10 AM in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem in Brenham. Bishop of Texas Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod, Paul Blom, will officiate. Burial will follow at Old Kinkler Cemetery in Hallettsville at 3PM. Pastor Herb Beyer of St. Peter Lutheran Church will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Stuart Fryer, Warren Grindeland, Ricky Gunkel, Glen Tesch, Chris Bruns, and Randy Schulte. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Pieper, Delbert Boeker, Ray Weiss, and Clarence Hodde.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem or St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer, Brenham, TX, 979-836-3611.
