Rosie (Skerik) Urban, age 87, of West, passed away early Friday morning, February 7, 2003 at West Rest Haven.

A rosary was recited 2 pm Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 2:15 pm Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family received visitors from 4 to 6 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Urban was born on November 7, 1915 in Taylor, the daughter of John and Mary (Tisall) Skerik. She attended schools in the Ross area. She married John R. Urban on November 17, 1943 in West. She worked as a farmer with her husband. Rosie was also a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, canning and spending time with her family. She was a member of KJZT #11 in West and a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, John Skerik and Frank Skerik; and one sister, Helen Soukup.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, John R. Urban of West; one son, Joe Urban and wife Linda of West; one sister, Mary Dirba of Sealy, six grandchildren, Theresa Marek, Angela Urban, Jessica Urban, Sarah Urban, Lindsay Urban, and Jackie Reimenschneider, all of West; four great-grandchildren, Garrett and Taylor Marek, Jenna and Braden Riemenschneider; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Henry Soukup, Joe Soukup, Frankie Skerik, Johnnie Skerik, Henry Dirba and Lawrence Girard.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Parish Center or West Ambulance Association.

Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
